Epperson Rallies Lady Bobcats Past Lady Bears, 3-1

BANNER ELK, N.C. - Megan Epperson tied a career-high with 17 kills as the Lees-McRae College Lady Bobcats rallied to beat the Lenoir-Rhyne Lady Bears, 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-11), in Williams Gymnasium in nonconference women's volleyball action.

The Lady Bobcats fell in the first set 18-25. They trailed 14-20 in the second set, but rallied to tie the match at 24. Epperson had a solo block to give Lees-McRae the first lead of the match, 25-24, and Epperson and Katie-Marie Legg combined for a block to win the second set 26-24.

Set three started off with Lenoir-Rhyne's bench earning a yellow card for team delay -- line-up card wasn't turned in on time -- and taking a time out before the set began because the team wasn't prepared for the set. However, Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to 5-11 lead before the Lady Bobcats rallied to cut the score to 12-14 forcing the Lady Bears to take their final timeout of the match. Lees-McRae would eventually tie the match at 20 and surge to win the set 25-23.

Lees-McRae took control of set four from the start on their way to a 25-11 win for the match win. The Lady Bobcats improve to 9-3 overall, while the Lady Bears fall to 13-3. With the win, Lees-McRae extended their consecutive match win streak to five.

The Lady Bobcats outhit the Lady Bears. Lees-McRae had 55 kills on 144 attempts with 22 errors for a .229 hitting percentage while, Lenoir-Rhyne had 35 kills on 135 attempts with 26 errors. Lees-McRae control the net with 12 team blocks, while Lenoir-Rhyne had four blocks.

Epperson's 17 kills was the second time the sophomore outside hitter had a career high. She also had a .308 hitting percentage with 13 digs and five total blocks in the match. Whitney Justice contributed with 14 kills on 28 attempts with only two errors for .429 hitting percentage. Justice and Legg aslo had five total blocks. Freshman setter, Megan Mitchell, handed out 45 assists, and Luana Rocha had a match-high 20 digs.

Chelsea Hill led the Lady Bears with 10 kills. Katelin Wensley followed with eight kills. Meredith Lutz dished out 30 assists, and Marrissa Church picked up 15 digs in the match.

Lees-McRae will travel to Mount Olive College Friday, September 25th at 7 p.m. for their next match.
