Lady Bobcats ranked fifth in NCAA Southeast Region poll

INDIANAPOLIS --- The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team is ranked fifth in the first NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll of the season, announced NCAA officials Thursday.

Lees-McRae (16-6, 13-0 CC) is currently riding a 13-match winning streak, entering the week having won 16 of its last 18 contests after edging Queens University of Charlotte and emerging region power Tusculum College in a pair of five-set thrillers. The Lady Bobcats, winners of 10 of the last 11 Conference Carolinas regular season titles, are just three wins away from claiming this season's crown.

Wingate University (19-1) sits atop the season's first region poll, followed by Flagler College (18-7), and emerging region power Tusculum College (17-4). The University of Montevallo (13-9) is ranked fourth, followed by Lees-McRae, Lincoln Memorial University (14-5), Carson-Newman College (9-6), and UNC Pembroke (15-7). Erskine College (13-8) and Anderson University (13-8) round out the list of the region's top 10 teams so far this season.

Lees-McRae returns to the court on Friday when the Lady Bobcats travel to Hickory, N.C. for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup with Lenoir-Rhyne University.
