BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team will play a challenging and diverse schedule this fall that includes four teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, including the defending Southeast Region champion, announced head coach Dave Schmidlin Friday.
The Bobcats posted a 12-17 record last season, including a four-match winning streak in Conference Carolinas play en route to an 8-8 mark against league opponents. Lees-McRae returns six letter-winners from last year's squad, including rising seniors Haydn Beatty (Norman, Okla.) and Lauren Fox (Garland, Texas), while welcoming a talented and versatile recruiting class into the fold.
Schmidlin and the Bobcats will open the season at the Francis Marion University Tournament in Florence, S.C. on September 6 and 7, squaring off against Newberry College and host Francis Marion on day one, followed by USC Aiken and Mars Hill College on the second day.
The Bobcats will travel to King University's tournament the following weekend, taking on University of Virginia at Wise and Concord University on September 13, and Trevecca Nazarene University and Carson-Newman College the next day.
After squaring off with Lenoir-Rhyne University on September 17 in Hickory, N.C., the Bobcats return to Banner Elk for their home opener on September 20, squaring off against Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas play followed by a league matchup with Belmont Abbey College the next day.
Lees-McRae then hits the road for the next six matches, including back-to-back tilts against defending region champion Wingate University and Lander University, as well as conference clashes with North Greenville University, Erskine College, Belmont Abbey College, and King University.
The Bobcats return to Williams Gymnasium on October 5, hosting Chowan University in non-conference play on Homecoming Weekend in the first of four consecutive home matches. Lees-McRae will conclude the home stand with an October 15 matchup against Erskine, before hitting the road for three straight contests against Pfeiffer, Mount Olive College and Barton College.
Following a home matchup with North Greenville and a trip to Spartanburg, S.C., the Bobcats will take on Limestone College in a home-and-home on November 2 (away) and 6 (home). The Bobcats then wrap up the regular season at home, taking on Mount Olive on November 8 before closing out the schedule against Barton the next day.
