BANNER ELK, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae women's volleyball team used a .311 clip and 10 aces to throttle Virginia Union, 25-19, 25-14, 25-18, in a nonconference match Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium in Banner Elk, N.C.
The Bobcats (5-7) took advantage of 10 kills from freshman Lexi Zangari (Breckenridge, Colo.) while the defense held the opposition to a .097 mark. The Panthers (8-3) struggled offensively despite six kills from Arianna Bethel.
Coach William Tatge's club has won four of its last five matches.
The Bobcats dominated the first set with eight aces, including four from junior Courtney Weathersbee (Raleigh, N.C.).
VUU held an 11-9 lead after a kill from Ambryanna Moore, but the Bobcats doubled up the Panthers, 16-8, to finish the set, following kills from Zangari and Rachel Cutshaw (Whitesburg, Tenn.).
LMC cruised through the second while leading wire-to-wire. Junior Madison Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) spearheaded the defense with 10 digs in the set.
Senior Avalon Liscio (Naples, Fla.) turned in four kills on four attempts.
Three different Bobcats turned in a kill while the team took a 12-7 lead in the third.
The lead ballooned to eight, 24-16, thanks to a Liscio kill.
The Bobcats swung at a match-best .379 in the deciding set.
Freshman Darian Parsons (Jenks, Okla.) dished out a match-high 20 assists.
LMC treks to rival King (Tenn.) Tuesday, Sep. 27 at 7 p.m. in Bristol, Tenn.
