BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team will head to the state of West Virginia this weekend to compete in its final non-conference tournament of the 2018 season. LMC will take on host school Concord (2 p.m.) along with Bluefield State (8 p.m.) Friday before closing out its trip with tilts against West Virginia Tech (11 a.m.) and Kentucky State (1 p.m.) Saturday. Live Stat and Video links for all four matches this weekend can be found HERE.
Last Time Out – The Bobcats were last in action this past weekend with four contests in Pembroke, N.C. During the four matches, Lees-McRae picked up its first victory of the 2018 campaign with a 3-0 triumph over Fayetteville State. Additionally, LMC also dropped three-set decisions to Coker, Lenoir-Rhyne and Shaw on the weekend. With those results, the Bobcats hold a record of 1-7 so far this fall.
Success against Mountain State squads – With three of Lees-McRae's four opponents this weekend hailing from the state of West Virginia, the Bobcats should like their odds. Since the start of 2005, LMC holds a record of 7-3 against schools that are from the Mountain State, including a perfect 2-0 mark last season.
Spreading the Wealth – During their eight matches so far this season, the Bobcats have seen four different players lead the team in kills in at least one match. Cailtyn Smirne paces this group as she has led the team in kills in four of the eight matches. Elissa Small has led LMC twice in that category, while the duo of Logan Slusher and Kaci Thornton have led the way in kills for one match each.
About the Opponents – Collectively, Lees-McRae's four opponents this weekend have a record of 12-25 this fall. West Virginia Tech is the only school of the four to have a winning record at 8-3. Concord (2-8), Bluefield State (0-5) and Kentucky State (2-9), meanwhile, will be looking to boost their respective records closer to the .500 mark this weekend.
Series Histories vs. Opponents – There isn't a whole lot of prior history between the Bobcats and their four opponents this weekend. LMC is 1-1 all-time against Concord with the last meeting occurring in 2013, while it boasts a perfect 2-0 record against Bluefield State. Saturday's matchups between West Virginia Tech and Kentucky State will be the first-ever meeting between Lees-McRae and those two programs.
