FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team fell in three sets (25-19, 25-14, 25-23) to Emmanuel College Saturday afternoon on the road. The loss moves LMC's record to 3-13 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
Set 1 – Emmanuel started Saturday's contest on a roll scoring six straight points. The Lions would extend their lead to as many as 11 points in the first before the Bobcats would claw back to get the deficit back down to five points. Unfortunately, that's where the comeback stalled as the Lions finished off a 25-19 win in the opening stanza.
Set 2 – After taking the first set, the Lions put together their best offensive frame of the match in the second. Collectively, Emmanuel connected for 17 kills on 40 attacks for an attack percentage of .300. LMC, meanwhile, could not keep up with the hot-hitting Lions as the latter went on to a convincing 25-14 win in the second.
Set 3 – It looked like the Bobcats may pick up their first set victory Saturday in the third. LMC led by as many as eight points and as late as 23-20. Emmanuel, however, went on a 5-0 run to close out Lees-McRae, 25-23.
Stat Standouts – Ellissa Small paced the Bobcats with a double-double Saturday with 10 kills and 12 digs. Allie Cunningham led the team with 15 digs, while Caitlyn Smirne chipped in 13. Sophomore Lauren Arnold had one of her better outings of the season hitting .333 on 21 attacks with seven kills.
Next Up – The Bobcats will return home Tuesday to host Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas contest. This match, which is a make-up of a postponement earlier in the year, is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.
