DUE WEST, S.C. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team won on Friday night at Erskine in five sets (20-25, 25-13, 25-21, 19-25, 15-18).
First Set – The Bobcats came out slow in this one early. Lees-McRae could only manage a .174 hitting percentage in the early going with four attack errors during the set. The Flying Feet got the best of the Bobcats in the first set, winning 20-25.
Second Set – The second set was a complete reversal of the first, with the Bobcats coming out on fire. Lees-McRae dominated the set with 13 kills and six service aces and went on the win the point comfortably.
Third Set – Lees-McRae was able to keep the positive momentum into the third. The Bobcats were able to overcome 5 service errors and battle to keep the set close. Erskine would also have error troubles of their own during the set and it was ultimately be their downfall with the Bobcats taking the lead.
Fourth Set- After winning the third, the Bobcats came out in the fourth again with error trouble. Lees-McRae had 10 total errors in the set and Erskine went on to force a fifth.
Fifth Set- The final frame was dominated by the Bobcats on the back of a .412 hitting percentage. Lees-McRae pulled away from the Flying Fleet and won to stay in the hunt for a West Division title.
Stat Standouts – Lees-McRae were led by Caitlyn Smirne (16 kills) and Abby Wordsworth (13 kills). Megan Gallion turned in a monster performance (35 assists) while Megan Serowski (17 assists) also contributed to the Bobcat attack. Leading the team in digs was Kaitlyn Arentz (18 digs).
Next Up – The Bobcats will return to action Saturday when they face Emmanuel on the road. First serve is set for noon..
