Bobcats come up short at King

BRISTOL, TENN. – The Lees-McRae College women's volleyball team fell on Saturday afternoon at King in three sets (11-25, 20-25, 21-25).

First Set – The Bobcats came out slow against King, finding themselves down early. Lees-McRae tried to throw a counter punch late in the set, but it would not be enough and the Tornado would take the point, 11-25.

Second Set – Heading into the second, things appeared to be going the way of the first but the Bobcats were able to stop the bleeding near the midway point. After winning several points in a row, Lees-McRae were down 19-21 with a chance to close the gap even further. King however were able to bounce back, winning the frame to hold a 2-0 lead over the Bobcats entering the third. 

Third Set – Lees-McRae had their best performance in the third set, playing the Tornado close throughout the entire frame. After finding themselves tied at 12-12, King were able to find a groove and build a small lead. The Bobcats continued to battle but were not able to overcome the deficit, dropping the point and the match. 

Stat Standouts – Lees-McRae were led by Caitlyn Smirne with eight kills. Megan Gallion led the team in assists with 13 while leading the team in digs was Kaitlyn Arentz, Mahealani Chun, and Caitlyn Smirne who all finished tied with 10.

Next Up – With the match today, the Bobcats conclude their regular season schedule. Lees-McRae will now start the conference tournament on the road next Tuesday at Belmont Abbey with the match set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
