Bobcats Run Well at Conference Meet - Women 2nd - Lindholm Freshman of the Year

Spartanburg, SC--Lees-McRae's women's cross country team competed in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Championship this past Saturday in Spartanburg, SC, hosted by Converse College. The women's team finished 2nd in the 12 team race.

Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, NC) was named Freshman of the Year for her runner-up finish in the women's 5k (3.1 mile) race. Her time of 19:38 was a personal best as well. Also earning All-CVAC honors was Ashley May (Chilhowie, VA) as she finished 10th overall.

Gina Valenti (Washington, NC) and Carla Swart (Buford, GA) finished 17th and 18th in the race. One of the Bobcats biggest surprises was sophomore Jenny Hurd (Danbury, NC) as she shaved a 1:30 off of her 5k time to run a 21:32 in the race and finish 27th overall.

Two seniors finished their final conference race as Casey Willis (Vale, NC) and Claire Weeks (Pine Level, NC) closed out their careers in style.

"We raced well today and I thought we did the best we could do," said Coach Craig McPhail. "I was proud of how they performed."

Next up for the Bobcats will be the NCAA DII Southeast Regional Race held at Wingate University Saturday Nov. 4th with the women running at 10:45 a.m.
