New Orleans, LA--The Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats cross country team got some good news Tuesday afternoon, announced as the top ranked team in the southeast region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national office. The Lady Bobcats opened the season taking second place at the South Carolina Upstate Eye Opener meet.
The top 8 girls for Lees-McRae at the Eye Opener were separated by just 1:18. Leading the way for the Lady Bobcats was red-shirt freshman April Harris (pictured top left), with a time of 20:13. A trio of sophomores, Dana Lindholm (20:17) and Gina Valenti (20:20), Ashley May (20:28), came in behind Harris, giving the Lady Bobcats places 16-18 and 20th in the 165 runner field.
"We have been working hard and the dedication is paying off as
the women ran smart today," commented Head Coach Craig McPhail
after returning from the Eye Opener. "What's promising is how
smooth today was and how they ran together pushing each other."
Next up for the Bobcats will be their annual trip to Charleston, SC for the Citadel Invitational September 29th.
