CHARLESTON, SC--Lees-McRae College's women's cross country team, ranked No. 1 in the Southeast, captured their first title of the 2007 season by winning the DII race at The Citadel Invitational this past weekend in Charleston, SC at the James Island County Park.
The Bobcats finished 1st out of the 11 team field with 37 points, besting Lenoir-Rhyne's 93 points. Leading the way for the Bobcats was sophomore Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, NC) as she ran a cross country personal best of 19:30 on the 5k (3.1 mile course), 3rd place. Teammates April Harris (Jonesville, VA) 19:46, 5th place; Ashley May (Chilhowie, VA) 19:48, 6th place; and Gina Valenti (Washington, NC) 20:04, 7th place, all had personal bests and finished in the Top 10 respectively.
Junior Jenny Hurd (Danbury, NC) finished in a personal best time of 20:59 along with Demarea Colson (Chesapeake, VA) who finished in a season best time of 21:13. Freshman Anna Gray (Hernando, FL) returned from a foot injury to run 21:49; while sophomore Karyn Bragman (Clayton, NC) had her collegiate best performance of 22:17 this weekend.
"I thought we ran well and with our improvements I am very happy with where we are in our training, we'll have to get faster obviously and I think this group knows what they need to do to accomplish all of their goals," said Coach Craig McPhail.

The Bobcats will race competitively again Friday, October 12th at Appalachian State University for the Blue Ridge Open.
