New Orleans, LA--Lees-McRae is well represented in the Division II Southeast Region with four sophomore members of the squad being selected to the 2007 All-Region team as announced Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The team won the Regional Championships by 47 points over the second place finisher, earning them the right to compete in the 2007 D II National Championships on November 17 in Joplin, MO.
The four Lady Bobcats selected for the All-Region team are Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, NC), April Harris (Jonesville, VA), Ashley May (Chilhowie, VA) and Carla Swart (Buford, GA).
The team has run as a pack this year with the women pushing and encouraging each other to a higher level of excellence. Leading the way for the Bobcats all year has been sophomore Dana Lindholm. Lindholm qualified for nationals last year as an individual and has continued to improve over the course of her sophomore season.
April Harris, Ashley May and Carla Swart (all sophomores) have competed tightly together, usually finishing within seconds of one another. The pack mentality of the Bobcats has been a big part of the success of the Lady Bobcats this year. These three women have also run their personal bests this season.
The team continues to train hard in preparation for national championship race on November 17th in Joplin, MO.
