Women's Cross Country Has Four Named to All Academic Team
New Orleans, LA--Four Lees-McRae women's cross country runners were named to the 2007 NCAA Division II USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Team as announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Junior Jenny Hurd (Danbury, NC) was joined by sophomore teammates Ashley May (Chilhowie, VA), Carla Swart (Buford, GA), and Gina Valenti (Washington, NC) in representing the Lady Bobcats.
All-in-all there was 202 female student-athletes from 99 Division II programs on the All-Academic team. Four student-athletes finished in the top five at the NCAA championships; Pixler-Seattle Pacific (1st), Gaurmer-Adams State (3rd), Jonel Rossbach-Emporia State (4th) and Rachelle Mallette-Wayne State (MI) University (5th). Adams State's Somers (8th) and Seattle Pacific's Larson (9th) both finished in the top ten at the national meet.
To qualify for the individual All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. The student-athletes must also finish in the top 30 percent of individual participants at their respective regional cross country championships.
