Lady Bobcats Tie for First at Lenoir-Rhyne Invite
NEWTON, N.C. - Lees-McRae's women's cross country tied for first place at the Lenior-Rhyne University Invitational at Southside Park in Newton, N.C. To separate a tie in cross country the places of each team (1-5) are matched up, and in this race LRU won the best of five series giving them the outright title.
"We ran well, we just could not finish the race. I thought we might have been a bit tired as this was a tough week of training for us," said Coach Craig McPhail. "It's also good to see where we are and what all we need to work on as we are truly a work in progress."
Leading the way for the Bobcats was junior Carla Swart (Buford, Ga.) as she finished fourth with a time of 20:00 over the 3.1 mile course. Close behind were teammates Gina Valenti (Washington, N.C.) in seventh place and Kira Shoemaker (Atlanta, Ga.) in eighth place. April Harris (Jonesville, Va.) finished 13th, and Dana Lindholm (Weaverville, N.C.) was 17th for the Lady Bobcats who finished with 41 points.
The Lady Bobcats are currently ranked 4th in the NCAA DII Southeast Region and have a couple of weeks off to get healthy and ready for a stretch run. They race next at the Blue Ridge Mountain Open on Friday, October 17th at the Greenway Trail in Boone, N.C.
