ELIZABETHON, Tenn. --- Hannah Henderson finished eighth, and three other Bobcats placed in the top 10 to lead the Lees-McRae College men's and women's cross country teams to a pair of top-five finishes at the Stampede at the Shoals on Friday.
The Lees-McRae women's team placed third in its race, finishing with 66 points behind the Milligan "A" and "B" teams, which amassed 15 and 60 points, respectively. UVA Wise finished fourth in the women's race with 113 points, while Tusculum placed fifth with 123 markers.
Henderson led the way for the Lady Bobcats, finishing eighth with a time of 16:21.90. Heather Peterman placed 13th with a time of 17:26.43, followed by Erica Zaveta (14th/17:39.31), Cinthia Lehner (16th/17:43.07) and Crystal Fischer (17th/17:45.21). Rayne Delutis finished 21st with a time of 18:05.55, while Lindsey Bush placed 29th with a time of 19:48.41.
Lees-McRae finished second in the men's race, totaling 43 points as the Milligan College "A" team captured the team title with 27 points. The Milligan "B" team placed third with 92 points, followed by the University of Virginia-Wise (113) and Tusculum College (116).
Craig Simpkins finished the men's race with a time of 19:11.89, leading a trio of Bobcats in the top 10 as Less-McRae placed second in the team competition with 43 points. Joining Simpkins in the top 10 were Mike Davis (5th/19:53.27) and Luke Anton (10th/20:25.88).
Austin High finished just behind Anton in 11th place with a time of 20:27.77, while Will McCoy (20:35.38) and Jared Lupton (21:00.83) finished 14th and 16th, respectively. Jordan Gillespie also finished 20th with a time of 21:34.82, while Doni McCarty placed 28th with a time of 23:02.69.
Lees-McRae returns to the course on Saturday, September 18 at the Winthrop Asics Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
