ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Hannah Henderson (Canvas, W. Va.) recorded her second top ten of the season, finishing in eighth place to lead the Lees-McRae College women's cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Winthrop Asics Invitational on Saturday.
Henderson crossed the finish line just ahead of teammate Kira Shoemaker (Aiken, S.C.), placing eighth with a time of 20:44.68 as Shoemaker registered a time of 21:24.26 to finish ninth. Cinthia Lehner (24th/22:12.99) finishing third on the squad as the Lady Bobcats registered a fourth place finish, tallying 101 points to place just ahead of Belmont Abbey (105). Mount Olive (53) captured the team title on the women's side, beating out Spartanburg Methodist (61) and Converse (80).
Craig Simpkins (Boiling Springs, N.C.) paced the LMC men to a third-place finish, earning his second straight top-ten finish of the season with a fifth-place showing on Saturday. Simpkins crossed the finish line with a time of 26:22.46 in the 8k event, narrowly beating out teammate Sondre Thorbergsen (Tranoy, Norway), who finished in seventh place with a time of 26:43.70. Michael Davis (15th/27:33.01), Austin High (21st/28:21.27) and Luke Anton (22nd/28:23.75) rounded out the Bobcat top five.
The Bobcats took home a third place finish, amassing 70 points to finish behind Mars Hill College (34) and conference foe Mount Olive (41). Spartanburg Methodist College (120) and Belmont Abbey College (120) rounded out the top-five in men's competition.
Lees-McRae takes to the trail on Friday, October 1 in Charlotte, N.C. at the UNC Charlotte Invitational.
