GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College women's cross country team finished third overall and second among NCAA Division II squads at the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, placing three runners in the top 15.
Lees-McRae finished third overall behind team champion Northern Kentucky University (32 points) and second-place Virginia Commonwealth University (47), amassing 77 points. Winston-Salem State finished fourth with 108 points, while Belmont Abbey College rounded out the top five with 131 markers.
Emily Shields (Salisbury, N.C.) finished third overall with a time of 20:22.48, followed closely by twin sister Katherine Shields (Salisbury, N.C.) in fourth with a mark of 20:28.67. Audrey Garrett (Weaverville, N.C.) finished 15th with a time of 21:27.86, while Crystal Fischer (Greer, S.C.) and Casey Clark (Roanoke, Va.) placed 31st and 32nd, respectively.
"It was a great effort by the entire team today in the mud," said head coach Thomas Cason. "Our women ran strong on a challenging course in tough conditions."
Lees-McRae returns to the course on Friday, September 30 when the Bobcats travel to the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational at McAlpine Park.
