BOONE, N.C. --- Twin sisters Emily (Salisbury, N.C.) and Katherine Shields (Salisbury, N.C.) finished second and third, respectively, to lead the Lees-McRae College women's cross country team to a third-place performance at the Blue Ridge Open, hosted by Appalachian State University on Friday.
UNC Wilmington topped the team standings with 40 points, as Bridgewater College finished second with 48 markers. Lees-McRae placed third with 67 points, followed by Belmont Abbey College (74), and Warren Wilson College (118).
Emily Shields turned in a time of 19:50.4 en route to a second-place performance, as her sister Katherine Shields finished third with a mark of 20:05.0. Audrey Garrett (Weaverville, N.C.) finished 20th with a time of 21:55.1, while Cinthia Lehner (Greer, S.C.) and Casey Clark (Roanoke, Va.) placed 28th and 31st, respectively, with marks of 22:03.1 and 22:14.4. Heather Peterman (Buford, Ga.) and Meredith Fox (Foscoe, N.C.) rounded out the finishers for LMC with times of 25:27.6 and 30:16.6, respectively.
Lees-McRae returns to the trails on Friday, October 21 when the Bobcats travel to Charlotte, N.C. for the Conference Carolinas Championships at McAlpine Greenway Park.
