HIGH POINT, N.C. --- Three members of the Lees-McRae College women's cross country team have been named to the all-Conference Carolinas Academic team, announced league officials Thursday.
Lindsey Bush (Catawba, N.C.), Crystal Fischer (Greer, S.C.), and Erica Zaveta (Erwinna, Pa.) were named to the conference's all-academic team for the first time in their careers, as Lees-McRae joined King College as the only schools with three honorees.
Bush has performed well in limited action during her career with the Bobcats, recording a personal-best time of 19:48.41 at the Stampede at the Shoals last season. A native of Catawba, N.C., Bush is majoring in pre-professional biology and plans to attend graduate school in pursuit of a career as a physician's assistant.
Fischer is in the midst of a solid season for the Bobcats, recording several strong finishes at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational and the Greensboro Invitational, where she finished 22nd and 31st, respectively. A native of Greer, S.C., Fischer posted her best time of the season at the Charlotte Invitational, finishing the 5k race in 20:37. Fischer is majoring in biology and plans to enter the U.S. Army's Interservice Physician Assistant Program following graduation.
Zaveta has put together a strong campaign this fall while splitting time between cross country and cycling, competing in a trio of races with the Bobcats. A native of Erwinna, Pa., Zaveta posted her best time of the season at the Charlotte Invitational, beating her previous mark by more than two minutes as she crossed the line with a mark of 22:23.
Lees-McRae returns to the trials on Saturday, November 5 when the Bobcats travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take part in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships after finishing fourth at the Conference Carolinas Championships last weekend.
