HICKORY, N.C. --- Emily Shields (Salisbury, N.C.) finished first overall in the Lenoir-Rhyne University Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning to capture the individual championship to pace the Lees-McRae College women's cross country team.
Emily Shields posted a time of 19:56 to claim the individual title, while her twin sister Katherine Shields (Salisbury, N.C.) placed third with a mark of 20:02. Cinthia Lehner (Greer, S.C.) finished 36th with a time of 23:00, as Rayne Delutis (Roanoke, Va.) placed 63rd with a mark of 27:12 to round out the day for the Bobcats.
Host Lenoir-Rhyne won the team title with 54 points, as Mars Hill College placed second with 72 markers. Radford University was third with 86 points, followed by Carson-Newman College (89), Converse College (108), Brevard College (143), Tusculum College (155), University of Virginia at Wise (226), and Emory & Henry College (252).
Lees-McRae returns to the trails on Friday, September 28 when the Bobcats travel to Charlotte, N.C. to participate in the UNC Charlotte Invitational.
