HIGH POINT, N.C. --- The Lees-McRae College women's cross country team is picked to finish ninth in the race for the 2013 Conference Carolinas regular season championship, announced league officials Friday.
King University is tabbed first with seven first-place votes and 79 points, followed closely by Mount Olive College with 74 points and two first-place votes. Belmont Abbey College is third with one first-place vote and 60 points, followed by Barton College (55), and Erskine College (45). Converse is sixth with 41 points, followed by Pfeiffer University (27), North Greenville University (25), Lees-McRae (23), and Limestone (21).
"I see this team as a great chance to build a strong nucleus for the program's future," said head coach Ley Fletcher. "I am excited about the freshman class we have brought in this fall, and we are all looking forward to the start of the season."
The Bobcats return two letter-winners from last season's squad, including senior Heather Peterman (Buford, Ga.) and junior Sarah Monday (Lexington, N.C.). Lees-McRae, which finished eighth at the 2012 conference championships, welcomes a strong recruiting class into the fold this fall, with six promising newcomers joining the quest for the program's ninth league title.
Lees-McRae opens the 2013 campaign on Friday, September 6 when the Bobcats travel to Johnson City, Tenn. to take part in the Buffalo Stampede.
