Cross Country wraps up its first race of the 2017 season Friday in Boone

BOONE, N.C. – The Lees-McRae College cross country programs competed in the Covered Bridge Open Friday evening in Boone, N.C. The men's squad finished 9th out of 12 teams, while the women's team was 12th out 12 squads out of a field made up of Division I and II programs.

Florida State won both the men's and women's titles on the day. FSU's Mircheva Militsa paced all women runners with a time of 16:53.29. On the men's side, UT-Martin's Edwin Kurgat logged the top time of 25:52.08.

Junior Austin Thompson posted the top time of any Bobcat Friday with a time of 27.22.21, which landed him in 36th place. On the women's team, Jordyn Halvorsen had the top time with a mark of 21:42.99.
